The Church In Busia

Creation of a Third Branch in Busia

Members of The church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints in Busia are over joyed with the growth and development of the church in their area. This last weekend all members from the two branches met together for yet another great time of learning and splitting of the Busia Uganda branch creating Busia 3 Uganda branch.

There have been only two branches in Busia; Busia One, Kenya, which was created in August 2009 and Busia Two in Uganda, created in June 2012. When the boundaries of the Uganda Kampala mission were realigned in Oct 2017 the Busia one Kenya became part of the mission branches in the UKM.

On Saturday they Held their very first priesthood and auxiliary training. In great numbers leaders met and received trainings on topics such as priesthood blessing, the significance of the priesthood of our church, and shown how it can be traced directly to the Savior. Also understanding priesthood keys. Training for the sisters focused on leading the way the Savior would lead. Principles of Faith, love, obedience, unity, and leadership skills such as delegating, planning, and setting goals.

These trainings were conducted by president and sister Collings, with the help of the senior missionaries together with President Richard Okello the 1st Councilor in the UKM presidency.

On Sunday the Busia Uganda Branch was divided. During this meeting, President Collings talked about the members showing love to those around them. He added that people see the difference which causes them to want to know more about church. He emphasized that as saints follow the examples of Jesus Christ every day, in all we do, the church will continue to grow in Busia.

“When we first arrived in Uganda, there was one struggling branch with only 25 people attending sacrament meeting. In just over a year there are about 150 who come every week. This is because the leadership went out and invited people back, and showed love when they came. Two weeks ago in Busia Kenya we attended the Branch, and there were only 35 active members. President Collings lifted their spirits as he talked about the miracle we saw on the Uganda side in just one year. The Branch Leadership went out with the full time Sister Missionaries, and in one week they had 64 people at church with 8 investigators. There are wonderful things happening in the Busia area’’ said Sister Collings.
