Elder and Sister Story, a missionary couple from Idaho are serving as Perpetual Education Fund missionaries in the Uganda Kampala Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Elder Story comes to Uganda with a wealth of practical business knowledge, as he started three different companies in his career, built a successful repair and restoration business, was a home builder and started a bank with a group of other investors. Because of Elder Story's business experience and his awareness of the need in Africa, he created a Practical Business Course here in Uganda that will help students gain basic understanding for starting a profitable business.
Elder David and Sister Kymm Story have created a 10-week series of classes that teach: self-reliance, self-employment, finding customers, selling and marketing, gross margins, profit and loss, income and expenses, family budgeting, creating a business plan and other more. Following each class the class members are given an assignment relating to their particular business idea that will move them forward to the final project of creating an overall business plan.
The 10-week course is being taught in Kampala, Jinja, Ntinda and starting in July it will be offered in Mukono. Church members are realizing the value of this teaching and are continuing to ask the Story’s to offer it in their area. The need is great and Elder and Sister Story are as accommodating as they can be. Each class is approximately two-hours long and has about 15 students in attendance.
Each student who attends all the classes and completes the course is given a certificate and additional business counseling by the Story’s. Elder Story says many of these students have degrees from local colleges and universities, but cannot seem to find jobs so they have to turn to other sources to make a living.
Edward Ebaju, a Branch leader and class participant, said, “In this town there are people who pay money to attend a class like he is carrying out voluntarily for us.”
