The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (also known as The Mormons), unveiled a new chapel to members of the public at a colourful ceremony on 4 May 2013. The ceremony was attended by political, religious, and other key opinion leaders, along with members of the church and the public. It was formally dedicated the following day as a place of worship by Eric Jackson, President of a five nation geographical area defined as the Uhanda Kampala Mission. The new chapel is located 5 kms along the Jinja-Iganga Highway in Uganda.

The ceremony, which began with a procession led by a complete brass band along the streets of Bugembe, caused a great deal of excitement in the highway town with businesses coming to a stand still as members of the public joined the march to the chapel.
At the chapel an Open House was held, which is a public tour given to visitors through the building as well as an exhibition of the history and various programs of the Church that fall into categories of education, welfare and spirituality - among others.
The Mayor of the town, His Worship Steven Wante, spoke at the ceremony and thanked the Church for bringing the gospel to people and for constructing a magnificient building which has added to the beauty of Bugembe town. He said that he was impressed with the Church membership and records computer program, which he said, if borrowed by the government would help public funds to be spent more efficiently. He promised to construct a better road leading to the church and to work hand in hand with the Church in its community cleanliness programs such as the Mormon Helping Hands activity scheduled for July this year.
The leader of the Church in Uganda and several other surrounding countries, President Eric Jackson, promised the gathering that as Church membership increased in the area, so will the economy of the country be transformed. He said the Church teaches its members to be honest and faithful and as a result of this they are trusted with many top positions in the world. He also spoke of the humanitarian efforts of the church which he said is the largest charitable organisation worldwide. He urged the people to put God first and to love their neighbours, which he said would make them better people.
