Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter Day saints of the Uganda Kampala North Stake gathered at the stake center in Kololo over the weekend for their special conference to witness the calling of new leaders.

The conference that started at 9.00am was presided over by Elder Terence M. Vinson of the Presidency of the Seventy; Elder Chatora who conducted the stake business shared some few insights from the scriptures and reminded the Saints that this is the spirit of revelation mentioned in Doctrine and Covenants 8.“Leaders are called of God” He said. He added that all things are done in order. His remarks followed the releasing and calling of new stake presidency Powell Lupaka Oketta who served as stake president was released and replaced by President Fredrick Kyambadde as president, David Cook as 1st counselor and Godfrey lufafa as 2nd counselor. The saints unanimously sustained the leaders as a symbol of support and willing to work with them.

President Oketta the outgoing president who made a joke informed the congregation that many people think when one is released it means that such a person may have committed a serious sin which is not true. He commended his counselors for serving with him. “Without my wife I have felt so heavily the weight of this calling. It is not where we serve but how we serve matters,” He added.

Godfrey Lufafa the newly called counselor on his return from work, the wife asked him, what if they call you to be one of these men”, he replied, I will say no” brothers and sisters it’s a big privilege for me to serve.

David Cook “I have zero doubt that he is the man of God to lead this stake”.

Sister Kyambadde shared a story of how missionaries came to their home of 15 people and out all of them she is the only one who welcomed them. She thanked Heavenly Father for this gospel and she’s willing to support the husband.

Elder Vinson shared from 3Nephi 26: 13 and concluded a hymn from 134 I believe in Christ, this hymn is precious,” he repeated. He added and said that he would do anything that the Lord would ask him to do,” He has not changed and he is still the same,” Elder Vinson said.

What a conference it was, it was such a remarkable conference and was closed by a hymn ‘I will go where you want me to go’. The conference was graced by several leaders from the church, investigators, and visitors among others.
