With the unrest in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, refugees have continued streaming across the Uganda border into refugee camps. One such camp is the one at Kyangwali, with only the clothing on their backs.
Humanitarian missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints joined with an inter-ministerial committee to visit a military wh installation where over 1000 refugees are currently living until they can be settled. There supplies donated by the Church were distributed. These included mosquito nets, blankets, hoes, seeds for fast growing greens, clothes, jerry cans and cooking pots.

Earlier this year, the Church financed and completed a solar powered water pumping and storage system to provide water access points for the villages that dot the hillsides.
Church Humanitarian Missionaries, Elder and Sister Stevens, were joined for the distribution of supplies by Minister of Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees Eng. Hilary Onek; the Internal Affairs State Minister James Baba; Lands Minister Daudi Migereko; Minister of the State for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees Ecweru Musa Francis; Minister of State for Bunyoro Affairs Ernest Kiiza Apuuli; Woman Member of Parliament Hoima District Kaahwa Tophace Byagira; Special Presidential Assistant Mohammed Sadik Mayanja; Senior Settlement Officer Bafaki Charles; and Minister of State for Trade and Co-operatives David Wandendeya Wakikona.
Honorable Ecweru Musa Francis recognized the Church for their efforts in helping to meet some of the needs in the area. Appreciation for the items was evident on the faces of the men, women, and children in the camp.
Blankets were also distributed at the St. Patrick’s School for orphans and to the children living with HIV at the Kyangwali settlement.
The four to seven year olds expressed their thanks with songs and huge smiles.
