Political Leaders Hail the Church in Uganda

Political leaders in Uganda have hailed the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the various contributions it has made to improve the lives of its citizens over the years.

During a dinner organised by the Public Affairs team of the Church at the Serena Hotel in Kampala, the Minister of State for Refugees and Disaster Preparedness  Hon. Musa Ecweru said he, " had interacted with the Church on the basis of its humanitarian program, on many occasions."

In his address at the dinner the Minister pointed out virtues of religious tolerance towards other faiths, and hard work exhibited by the Church.

Hon. Ecweru is also member of Parliament for Amuria County and represented the Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament Hon. Rebecca Kadaga at the dinner.

At the same occasion Florence Mutyabule, who is the woman member of Parliament for Namutumba, thanked the Church for the relief efforts it has extended the people in her constituency.

She said that recently over 2000 children in her constituency had been attacked by a very strange condition which turned out to be malnutrition.

By means of the fortified food that the Church supplied the lives of the children, including some thought to be on the verge of death, were spared.

She also spoke with gratitude about the water projects that the Church has completed in her area, which has enabled the families there to have clean and safe drinking water.

She said this would not have been possible if the Church did not have a strong respect for humanity.

The dinner was attended by over 80 guests which comprised of religious leaders, Cabinet Ministers in the Ugandan government, members of Parliament, and heads of other business and non-profit making organizations in the country.
