Jinja Residents Benefit from Eye Care Project

Jinja Residents Benefit from Eye Care Project

As a result of the screening, two hundred pair of eye glasses were distributed to the less privileged students and their caregivers with poor eye vision in the District.

In addition, approximately 35,000 people were taught proper eye care and how to keep their eyes free from disease.  This was accomplished over radio and through outreach programs conducted in Mafubira, Butagaya, and Busedde, all sub-counties in Jinja District.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints partnered with the initiative and donated 500 pair of eye glasses.  LC5 District Vice Chairman Paul Balidawa, who is over children’s welfare, attended the eye glass handover. Jinja District Ophthalmic Officer Josephine Nalongo headed the medical team in partnership with Jinja Regional Referral Hospital Ophthalmic Department, Dr. Jean Babalanda and Jinja Ophthalmic Medical School.  Saleh Sentamu Kibwika coordinated the program for the Aim Education Initiative.
