An Invitation to Serve this Christmas Season 

The Church Hosts The Speaker of Parliament in Uganda

Members of the Church and thier leaders hosted the Speaker of Parliament of Uganda the Rt. Honorable Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga at the Light the World event held at the Kololo Stake Center on the 14 December 2019. Rt. Hon. Kadaga was accompanied by Hon. Musa Francis Ecweru, Minister of State for Refugees and Disaster Preparedness and Hon. Lufafa Nelson, Member of Parliament for Butembe County, Jinja District.

Elder Joseph Sitati First Counselor, Africa Southeast Area Presidency opened the event by introducing the Speaker and highlighting her lifelong achievements that reflected her value for human kind. He affirmed that "she had lit the world within her sphere of influence" and as such we could all learn from her great example. 

The Rt. Hon. Kadaga and Hon. Ecweru applauded the great role the church plays in serving humanity.

 

The Rt. Hon. Speaker commended the church for the good work they do for the society; acts of kindness to everybody. She acknowledged that she learnt a lot from the church video, The Christ Child, that played suring the event, about the humble beginning of Christ and the nature of the people who welcomed his birth showing how we should embrace each other.

She pledged to use the suggestions or ways to light the world as on the scheduled card of the church not only in this month of December but throughout the coming year, 2020.

The minister for Refugees and disaster preparedness, Hon. Musa Francis Ecweru shared his experience with the Church which included multiple instances of humanitarian support that greatly helped to alleviate the suffuring of many Ugandans. He highlighted a time when the eastern part of country experienced severe floods that led to mudslides and consequent death of many people in Mbale District and how the Church intervene and helped by offering hygiene kits to help the affected people who were already dying of diseases like cholera.  

He concluded his address by singling out the Word of Wisdom which is the Church's law of health as yet another outstanding teaching in the Church which helps to nature and groom the youth and children by encouraging abstinence from alcohol, tobacco and harmful drugs. He confirmed that substance abuse has become a big challenge to the youth of of Ugands and that the Church had the remedy in its teachings. He also emphasized that Gospel principle practiced by members of the church like being Honest is good for the society and as government, he pledged to support the church establishment in any part of the country.

The event then closed with Elder Sitati calling all members to seek to be more humble during this Christmas season and in the new year. To show increased humility by forgiving everyone and being kind to all.
